The Passage House Inn, Topsham

In 2011, I was commissioned to make these six panels for a screen above the bar at The Passage House Inn, Topsham, in Devon.

At first, the landlord had in mind traditional stained  glass, but was open to an experimental approach, combining the two techniques- fused glass and leadwork. The strong lead lines echo the old oak beams, and link with the historic atmosphere of the inn, while the fused glass gives a feeling of movement in the water and sky.

Other parts of the design show Mike the ferryman (07801 20 33 38), the old town and St Margaret's church, and some of the many wildfowl and waders that can be seen on and around the Exe Reed Beds nature reserve which extends over both sides of the estuary.
